Grammar Girl Makes It Big
January 30, 2007 by John MayfieldRecently I read an article on www.CNN.com about "The Grammar Girl." She's a normal lady from Arizona who has a passion for grammar and started a podcast helping others with their grammar mistakes. Grammar Girl (real name - Mignon Fogarty) said she got the idea while on vacation with her family in California while sitting in a coffee house. What's ironic is that Grammar Girl has hit as high as number two on iTUNES and prior to the CNN article had as many as 1.3 million downloads. Wow! What's so great about a podcast like Grammar Girl? It shows the potential and growth our real estate industry can have for communicating to consumers through such new technology. We all know podcasting is there and available but how many real estate professionals realize it's power and potential such as the "Grammar Girl" podcast? People are hungry for information and the marketplace is wide open for podcasting and blogging in our local marketplaces. It's kind of like a new frontier for many real estate professionals and their geographical areas around the country.
Like Blogging, podcasting can sometimes sit around on our creative shelves for a long time because we're either too busy or worried we won't be perfect. For others it might be the fear of just making a "mistake" or not being "grammatically" correct. In fact, the Grammar Girl states that many people won't write her e-mails as they're worried about the content and style of their writing. I think that sums up many of us who have a fear of writing and posting blogs from time to time and wondering if everything is "right' Right or wrong we should all feel free to use today's technology (especially blogs and podcasting) to promote and enhance our businesses. Even though we might have a grammar glitch or accidentally insert a typo, the main point is to just do it! Who knows, like Grammar Girl, maybe one of us will be the next "Real Estate Girl or Guy" featured on CNN.
