Getting motivated. Realizing you’re the biggest obstacle standing in front of you and your goals.
November 20, 2007 by Don HobbsI can’t count the number of times I’ve heard agents say, I know what to do and where I want to be, but I’m having trouble getting motivated. What can I do to get fired up for my career?”
This is a tough question. And, it’s a universal one. But I can tell you one thing at the risk of sounding cliché, motivation must come from within. That being said, I still believe having external systems to generate new business does play a powerful role.
It’s no coincidence that your motivation wanes when business wanes. Think about it. The simple fact for all of us is, we accomplish more when we have more things to accomplish. The more free time we have, the lazier we become. With this in mind, I feel it’s absolutely critical for agents to position themselves for success—for a higher volume of business—to get and stay motivated. It’s simple really. The more business you have, the more productive and inspired to grow you become.
My point to people is this—if they had been working a marketing system that generates the business for them, they wouldn’t find themselves in a situation of apathy. They’d be motivated because the business would be coming to them already. To put it simply, they would have the business and the motivation to get to the places they’ve dreamed about. I’d love to hear other thoughts on this topic.
Goals – And in goals, it’s the why that counts! Why do I want to do this or accomplish that?
