One of the key concepts in any business is the importance of relationships. Effective relationship building is the basis of referrals and repeat business. A rookie agent has to build his/her skills, and at the same time, develop"?a network of business relationships to sustain an effective and profitable company.

Take a minute and think about your gifts, your past experiences, your "unique selling proposition". This is what you have to offer the marketplace. Take your gifts and leverage them to build a successful market niche, like first time homebuyers, for-sale-by-owners, expireds, luxury homes, lakefront property, etc. For me, it was smart to leverage my training as a registered nurse (RN)"?and administrator (MBA) and work with active adults or seniors with special needs, such as dementia or Parkinson's. Not everyone knows how to address the functional and cognitive needs of these special clients.

One of the decisions that I made early on was to network within groups that associate with seniors or "active adults" (55+ years old), and, to improve my real estate credentials by achieving the SRES designation. I received my training through Barney Fletcher School, a Realty University member.

When you meet agents and exchange business cards, you quickly learn who has what credentials. Accredited Buyers Representative (ABR), Accredited Sellers Representive (ASR), Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), etc. are popular designations and have active networks that meet at NAR and other times throughout the year.

According to the Seniors Advantage Real Estate Council, "by earning the SRES"? designation, the licensee demonstrates that he/she has the requisite knowledge, experience and expertise to successfully provide seniors with professional consultation about real estate."

If you are interested in learning more about obtaining this designation, go to www.seniorsrealestate.com and review the requirements or visit www.realtyurealestateschools.com to search for a real estate school offering the course in your area.

I have found that networking and expanding my education and credentials has been a very positive approach to building my business my first year. Take a look at your business plan and see what additional training, designation and networks might benefit you as you build your market niche.

Have a great week, and if I can assist you in any way, just contact me!

Pretty soon a senior may be able to purchase a home with a Reverse Mortgage from the FHA. Here is a website you can visit, to keep up to date with this pending law.
