Daily Accountability
April 30, 2006 by Kendra ShearerOne of the books that I read during my first year is called: The E Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It. It was written by Micheal E. Gerber in 1995 and is a study on why small businesses fail and things you can do to avoid mistakes. I can honestly say that knowledge of these myths has helped me through many"?hard days. When you start your new real estate business, you are the CEO, the accountant, the marketing director, the buyer agent, the listing agent, the transaction manager, etc.! It's true! Gary Keller says focus on the 20% of the business that matters. The other 80% will be a mess and you just have to get over it!
My business coach from Success Strategies Institute taught me to identify key tasks that must be done everyday for my business to succeed. These items are part of my daily accountability check-list:
1. prayer/meditation: this section is really part of taking care of our spiritual life and making sure that it is not neglected
2. exercise and breakfast: everyone knows that physical health is critical to having the vitality to do our work
3. prospecting for new business: we will never neglect this, even when we are mega-agents!
4. lead generation and lead follow-up: this is the life-blood of our business.
5. transaction management: current buyers and sellers that we are contracted with need daily follow up of contractual timelines and obligations
6. buyer appointments: planning, scheduling and previewing"? with buyers
7. listing appointments: completing CMA's and marketing plans for listing prospects
8. networking appointments
9. systems development and new projects: as a new agent, set priorities for what systems you need
10. continuing education and training, and scripting: ongoing professional development to assure that you have the skills and scripts needed to get the business
11. marketing: daily execution of brand image and marketing real property
Try to develop a daily accountability check-list for yourself and see how you do!
If you can, attend a Power Summit seminar given by Success Strategies Institute, or, weekly training on iSucceed.com. Also, check Create-A-Plan website (www.createaplan.com) for samples of worksheets that may help you organize your day and your business.
Have a great week,
Kendra
