ICE....In Case Of Emergency. Very Important!!
December 23, 2007 by Robyn HardyWe work in an industry that has some very unique and possibly harmful situations. We are on the road all the time meeting people in stranger's homes etc. Take precautions and learn or refresh your knowledge of personal safety.
Below is a link to a Personal Safety Guide for the Real Estate Industry. You may even come across situations where you are the person assisting another in their crisis so be prepared by taking CPR classes (link below). The recommended techniques have changed over the years so a refresher course would be the perfect way to start the new year. Better yet, if you are a broker or manager why not host a class at your office and get everyone up to speed?

Please do one thing if you haven't already....put contacts in your cell phone and/or pda that are ICE1 and ICE2 (In Case Of Emergency) and give the name and contact information for, at minimum, 2 people you would like contacted in case you have a situation where you need assistance. You can even put notes in this contact record if you are diabetic etc. Law enforcement has an initiative to get this information out to everyone so if they have to contact someone on your behalf they can easily find the information in your communication device. You may even think about putting it in your contacts on your email etc. Hopefully you never need this. If you have children and/or elderly family...this is of utmost importance!!
If you are assisting another person in a crisis first call 911, start resucitation if necessary and look in their cell phone for their ICE contacts. Hopefully they will have them handy. Please pass this information along.
Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for a Fabulous 2008 to You And Yours!! I have a feeling we will all be very pleased and excited about the year to come.
Stay warm and safe. Love and be loved.

It would be nice if the cellphone companies got on board to try and push this on people when they load up a new phone.
The concept of sending electronic text messages between parties in a way analogous to mailing letters or memos predates the creation of the Internet. Even today it can be important to distinguish between Internet and internal e-mail systems.

I read your article on ICE and have a suggestion. When entering Ice on your cell phone, on the same line skip a space and write the person's name, this way, the police, or, emergency help know who to ask for especially if you list a work number, for instance: ICE Robyn
Prior to getting into real estate 21 years ago, I was in the risk and safety mangement field. I am currently a continuing ed teacher and one topic I include in my class is an hour on agent safety. This is a topic that, unfortunately, has not been stressed enough. I recently read that 25% of agents have either had a bad experience, or, had a "gut" feeling that something was about to happen.
Thanks,

Robyn - my wife suggested this to me and frankly, I was rather reluctant to do it - guess it is a male thing. But I finally gave in and now I have an ICE on my cell phone.
However, I never really thought about CPR. But it is a good idea and very plausible.
Good post.
Thanks for the reminder. I had done this a couple of years ago, but have changed phones since then and had forgotten to re-enter my ICE contacts.
