Associations Should Not Start Hunkering Down
May 11, 2006 by AnonymousThere is little doubt at this point in time that in some markets there will be dramatic reductions in production and sales. It also appears that all market may experience some level of volatility. However the last thing REALTOR Association should be doing at this point is reducing member services. Assuming a classic membership age spread at least half of all REALTORS have been paying dues for many years without complaint or demand. Even the several hundred thousand members who have joined over the past few years paid up with no guarantees of service and little information other than their broker's direction.
Now for the first time in fourteen years many members will find themselves in a professional crisis as market volumes decrease, new competitors abound and an Internet empowered consumer demands new value and a superb real estate transaction experience.
This is not the time to hunker down. This is not the time to abandon members. This is not the time to worry about protecting the organization for the future. This is the time to double services. This is the time come to the aid of a membership that will have to gain more new knowledge and develop more new business systems that at any other time in recent history.
This is the rainy day anticipated by those who started building reserves years ago. REALTOR association must rise to this occasion and be known as organizations that came to the aid of the member in need.
